I marvel at how well the news media, bloggers, writers of all types address the New Year, and uniquely approach ways to prepare, set intention, to do all of the right things. Since they write on this subject year after year, it takes quite a bit of ingenuity to create a new angle.
Why in these very pages (the last post, in fact), I wrote about setting a theme for the New Year, so I am guilty too of the allure of seasonal topics.
So, thinking about this, I was wondering where I would want to head now, on this first official work day of the New Year.
And what I found is this. I want to imagine myself six months from now – sitting down to my six month review -- checking in with my goals, what I intended to do, what I have accomplished so far. And what I didn’t do or have yet to do this year.
Just shifting to the six month perspective changes, well, everything. It fast-forwards, not for the sake of rushing to the destination, but for noticing what shows up. What do you imagine wanting at that six month checkpoint? And, importantly, what is missing, what have you not done or been? Pay attention to the ‘not’ this time. Imagine yourself now, six months from now. If there were one thing you haven’t done that you wish you had, what would it be?
Pause now and ask yourself this question. Now…No, not later. Now.
I’ll give you a little context, in case you want to activate your thinking.
It may be something in one of the ‘Wheel of Life’ segments.

- Money
- Friends and Family
- Significant Other/Romance
- Personal Growth
- Physical Environment
- Health and Fitness
- Fun and Recreation
- Other (a category you name)
So, consider the question again. In six months, what do you imagine wanting, that if missing, sorely disappoints you?
Now that you have identified it, why wait? This is the one thing that is aching to be done. So, why procrastinate?
So often, we delay beginning things because they seem too big, too weighty. What I notice is that when I charge myself to merely begin, just to see how far I get, miraculous things happen in a very short period of time. It is never as hard as it seems.
So…begin that one thing now. So that you can have what you want at that six month review mark.
Have at it!
I can’t wait to hear what happens for you!
